Do I need to preregister?

No, you will be able to register when you check in, beginning at 8am 3/26/11 at Starbucks Pine Island Road. However, at registration you will be given specific instructions that would be helpful to have in advance, and the registration line might be long! If you PREREGISTER before 3/25 you will receive a printable 10% off coupon for Starbucks Pine Island Rd, good on Hunt day!

Why do I need to Check In?

Checking in will provide us with a head count of people playing the game. When you check in you will be given instructions and a sticker for each member of your party showing everyone that you are playing the game and not loitering or trespassing!

What kind of prizes are there?

We have over $1500 in prizes from local businesses! They have all been listed on our sponsor page. We also have a prize of a Two Night stay at The Resort at Marina Village in Cape Coral (Valued at $730!) for one lucky winner!! There are prizes for the top three finishers, all other teams who complete the challenge before 2pm, will be entered to win a prize basket (to update - we have two baskets now and we will draw two names!)! Businesses have donated out of the kindness of their heart and the love for their community, a big thank you to all of them!!

How much does it cost to play?

The Great Cape Crusade is free to play. The app is free to download. There is no activity that will cost you money in order to get your points.

What if i don't have a smart phone?

YOU CAN STILL PLAY! You can play on any phone with SMS capabilities. can you take and send picture texts on your phone? Than you can play!! The code to start the trek will be available will be at check-in. App users will have a built in map so if you are playing by text, a Cape map is a good idea since you will receive each check point by text along with it's street address. Playing by text is easy!!

How will we know who wins?

Each activity has a point value. The party finishing first with the maxiumum alotted number of points will be the winner! Prizes will be given out to first, second and third place. All other players finishing the trek before 2pm will be entered to win a special prize basket! SCVNGR will keep track of everyone's points and show the top 25 leaders on the tally board. If playing via SMS you can text SCVNGR and they will text back your rank. PRIZES WILL ONLY BE GIVEN TO TEAMS or PLAYERS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY CHECKED IN WITH US.

How do I preregister?

Send us an email at  greatcapecrusade@gmail.com with your name and number of people in your party. You will still need to quickly Check In with us between 8-9am at Starbucks Pine Island on Hunt Morning.

How many people can I have in my party?

As many as you want, or as few as one, but you will be registered by team and prizes will be awarded to the team as a whole. One registered phone equals one team, no matter how many people are on your team. Get your friends together, your youth group, school or work group and go out as a team! An extra set of eyes and hands might be helpful in this game! Encourage your peers, your church families or your office to make a challenge within a challenge. You could offer a special prize to the team from your office that has the highest rank!

What do I need to play?

You will need transportation, and an iphone or android with the SCVNGR app downloaded (it's free). You can play using a phone with SMS capabilities, however your competition with the apps will have a bit if an advantage. For app players, SCVNGR has a built in Google map with pin points of trek check points. For SMS players, a Cape map is not a bad idea, because each check point will be text to you with it's street address. Don't forget a charger for your phone!!

How do I play via SMS?

You will text the trek code to a specific number at initial check-in, a text back will tell you where the first challenge is. Then everytime you complete a challenge, the next challenge will be sent to you via text. You will need to text a picture, code or the answer to the number provided in the instructions, along with your name and phone number so that your answer might be liked to your account. If you are playing via SMS, your team will show up on the leader board as "Anonymous" and if you are one of the first three finishers you will need to show us your phone to verify that all of your challenges have been completed.

Can my team split up to look for challenges?

You have to be at the location to get the points for the challenge. One person's phone will represent the person or their team. So if your team splits up to look for challenges, it won't help because your phone has to be at the check point to register your challenge points. It works by Google places/GPS and knows if you aren't there. If you are not at the location and you do the challenge anyway, it will not register your points for that challenge.

What is SCVNGR?

SCVNGR is a website and app. www.scvngr.com You should have your app or check out the website prior to Crusade day to get to know how the game works. (Starbucks Pine Island Road always has SCVNGR challenges, you can test out your app there anytime).

What if I want to try to cheat?

Trek will not be "live" until 3.26.11 at 9am. Businesses and locations will NOT be answering these questions over the phone. With the SCVNGR app you must be in the vicinity of the check point in order to be able to check in and do the activity there and earn points. All winners check points will be verified before awards are handed out. If you took a pic of something other than the answer to the check point questions, you will not get the points for that challenge. Sorry.

How can I get my business involved?

We already have our trek route for 2011. However, we are happy to take donations toward our first, second and third place prizes or to off set the costs of creating this free public event. If you are interested in getting involved for next year, we are planning that route now.

Who is putting this whole thing together?

This event is not specificly for any organzation, it is not benefiting any cause. It is put together by a local woman and her precocious teenage daughter, and a huge shout out to the local businesses pitching in!

Why are you doing this?

Ahh, a very good question. One that I was even asked by my husband. My answer is simple. I've lived in the Cape off and on since 1980 and I love my town. As a mother, I am always looking for interesting things to do. We need good, fun, free, family friendly activities. We need silly entertainment and we always need a little adventure.

Announce it, blog about it, post our Facebook Event page or organization page or website page to your wall and invite your friends, tell your neighbors, make your own side competition and race against your friends. If you don't want to play but you are still interested in helping, we are looking for a few volunteers to assist players on Hunt day, drop us an email to find out how you can help.  

  Things you should know...

No activity on our Crusade is extremely dangerous or labor intensive, however, by agreeing to play, you assume all risks and responsibilities when playing this game and making this trek. Every stop is a public place. Please be respectful of all businesses and locations. Anyone found to be sabotaging the game for other players will be disqualified. And Please obey all traffic laws! And PLEASE, of course, DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE.
